And you call your publication 21st century?!!!

When was the last time you went to the cinema? 1999?!

Philip Ogley's avatar

Actually it probably was.

The ones I haven't seen sound good. Agree with you on The Terminator - I liked him better when malevolent. I'll try almost anything with Ben Kingsley - his emotional scenes are remarkable whether he's being tender or terrifying. I like Steve Martin better in The Jerk. Thanks for referrals.

A puerile comedy I can rewatch often is Mystery Men. Lots of goofy humor, a slow-building redemption arc, and a huge cast of comic actors. (Plus a small role for Tom Waits!) I took the whole family to see it when it came out and we all loved it. But for whatever reason, it tanked in the theaters. Our kids would pull out the VHS tape to show their friends, and their reaction was almost always, "why haven't I seen this movie before?"

Oh yeh, I’ve seen it loads. It’s a cult classic almost!

Nice list. Tell no one is wonderful.

A few you’re probably well aware of and some of my favorites, that based on your list, I think you’d enjoy:

-The rage in placid lake

-force majeure

-the guard

-no

-under siege

-another round

-layer cake

I like all of them except layer cake. I found it terrible. Can't remember why? 🤩

Ah, no kidding? That’s my favorite of all time, or at least tied with the great escape and life aquatic.

I must admit that, the first time I saw it, the british - combined with too many characters - was too much for me to follow. Had no idea what i watched. I’ve since seen it a dozen times, and still watch it with english subtitles.

I would add Ferris Buehler to the list of essential movies rewatch.

I’m late to this party, but my favorite watchable movies are (no particular genre or order) “Chariots of Fire”, “The Devil Wears Prada”, “Ordinary People”, “Empire of the Sun”, and “Me Before You”. That last one is a bit of a sleeper. It stars Emilia Clarke of Game of Thrones fame, and Sam Claflin who I had never seen before until the Daisy Jones and the Six series. Really great chemistry between the two of them and a poignant storyline.

The ones here I haven’t seen look terrible! But the ones I have seen are great, so I’m going to track down the others and watch them.

I like the logic!

Sightseers is one of my favourite films! Is Tina's mother an alcoholic??

Philip Ogley's avatar

There was a scene where she's in bed drinking gin...so maybe

Watched Good Boys during the week, like a more heartwarming Superbad as the kids are so innocent

Like stand by me

Sexy Beast is a brilliant film in general, but also so weird to see Lovejoy in a rough sex scene!

Philip Ogley's avatar

Yeh, I agree, that was weird.

Some classics! Palm Springs has been on my watch list for awhile, should rectify thanks.

Philip Ogley's avatar

It’s a surprisingly good movie

I think I've seen it. It's quite old, and doesn't it revolve around people who are dead. Like a halfway house between life and death. I think I was a student in Nottingham. I'll see if I can download it.
